The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a warning to business establishments regarding unscrupulous individuals pretending to be labor inspectors. In a social media post on Friday, May 13, 2026, the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) urged workplaces to remain vigilant against these impostors.
Modus Operandi of Bogus Inspectors
The BWC stated that reports of individuals posing as DOLE Labor Inspectors continue to surface. It emphasized that the public and establishments should be cautious of this modus operandi, which aims to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting businesses.
Identifying Legitimate Inspectors
According to the BWC, all legitimate DOLE Labor Inspectors carry an official DOLE identification card and authorized documents. Inspections are conducted strictly in accordance with established procedures and do not require any fees or kickbacks. The agency advised that suspicious documents and prompt billing should raise red flags.
Legal Consequences
The BWC stressed that acting as a labor inspector without proper authority is illegal. It urged business establishments to report any suspicious activity to the nearest DOLE office or call the DOLE Hotline 1349. Anyone found involved in such activities will face appropriate punishment as provided by law.
This warning comes as part of DOLE's ongoing efforts to protect businesses from fraudulent schemes and ensure that labor inspections are conducted fairly and transparently.
