PRO 8 Deploys Over 300 Police Personnel to Secure Evraa Meet in Baybay City
The Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas, known as PRO 8, has mobilized a substantial security force to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Evraa) Meet. This major sporting event is taking place from March 1 to 7, 2026, in Baybay City, drawing thousands of participants and spectators from across the region.
Comprehensive Security Measures Implemented
According to Police Director Brigadier General Jason Capoy, the deployment of more than 300 personnel is focused on crowd management and emergency preparedness. The goal is to safeguard all attendees while promoting a secure environment for sports in Eastern Visayas. The security contingent includes six police commissioned officers, 367 police non-commissioned officers, and an EOD/K9 unit, ensuring a robust and multifaceted approach to event security.
Police officers have been strategically positioned at various key locations, including playing sites, billeting schools, sports arenas, and other Evraa event areas. This widespread presence is designed to cover all aspects of the event, from the athletic competitions to the accommodations for participants.
Regional Collaboration and Operational Details
The assigned officers hail from multiple units across the region, demonstrating a coordinated effort. These include the Regional Personnel Records Management Division, RECU-8, Leyte Provincial Police Office (LPPO), Southern Leyte PPO, Biliran PPO, Samar PPO, Eastern Samar PPO, Northern Samar PPO, Tacloban City Police Office, and Ormoc City Police Office. This diverse team works together to manage area security, maintain a Quick Response Team on standby, oversee border control, conduct patrolling, secure contingent convoys, and ensure billeting area security.
PRO 8 has emphasized that this deployment aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., to strengthen and enhance police operations across the region. The regional command stated that it will continue to prioritize the safety and security of large-scale regional events, reflecting a commitment to public safety and order.
Event Scale and Community Impact
The Evraa Meet is the largest sporting event in Eastern Visayas, attracting more than 10,000 athletes, coaches, trainers, officials, and visitors from 13 school divisions. This significant turnout underscores the importance of the security measures in place. By ensuring a safe environment, PRO 8 aims to support the event's success and foster a positive atmosphere for sports and community engagement in the region.
