In a display of remarkable resilience and skill, Davao Strikers FC emerged as the champions of the Men's Open division at the highly competitive 1Kadarbs 7 Football Tournament. The thrilling final was held at the Davao Sugar Central grounds in Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, on December 23, 2025.
A Rocky Start to a Championship Run
The path to glory was not smooth for the Strikers. Coached by Murphy Jake Somosot, the team faced an immediate setback with a 1-0 loss in their opening match against Orlando Tagum. However, demonstrating true championship character, they bounced back emphatically. The squad rallied to win three consecutive group stage games, including a dominant 6-1 victory over Brotherhood Mashman GSKP Maguindanao and a solid 2-0 win against EartxFalcon FC, securing their place in the knockout rounds of the tournament which featured nearly 200 teams overall.
Nerves of Steel in the Knockout Stage
The true test of the Strikers' mettle came in the elimination phase. In a heart-stopping sequence of matches, the quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship games all ended in draws after regulation time. This forced a series of high-pressure penalty shootouts. With incredible composure, Davao Strikers FC converted every decisive kick. They edged past Tako FC Tagum 4-3, overcame Orlando FC Tagum 3-2, and finally sealed the title with a 3-2 penalty shootout victory over Black Panther Cotabato in the championship match.
Individual Honors for a Team Triumph
While the victory was a collective effort, several individuals earned special recognition for their outstanding performances. Goalkeeper Harrys Villamor Partulan had a phenomenal tournament, earning the double distinction of Best Goalkeeper and Most Valuable Player (MVP). Midfielder Lee Christian Moreno Hayahay was named Best Midfielder, and the tactical mastermind behind the success, Coach Murphy Jake Somosot, rightly received the Best Coach award. Their achievements highlight the perfect blend of individual brilliance and cohesive teamwork that defined the Strikers' campaign.
