The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) Elite team is set to return to Hong Kong this month for the 50th Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races (IDBR), scheduled for June 27-28, 2026. The team, fresh off consecutive medal finishes, will compete among more than 4,500 athletes from 16 countries in one of Asia’s largest dragon boat competitions.
Proven Track Record
Recognized by the International Dragon Boat Federation and the Asian Dragon Boat Federation, the PDBF team has a history of global success, including world championship titles and record-breaking performances. At the IDBR, the team won gold in the International Open Competition in 2024 and silver in the 500m Women’s International Championship in 2025.
Golden Jubilee Highlights
To mark its 50th anniversary, organizers have introduced new race categories. The “50th Anniversary Fisherman Invitational Cup” will feature traditional fishermen’s teams racing in wooden dragon boats, while the “50th Anniversary Championship” will pit champions from major divisions against each other for the title of Ultimate Dragon Boat Champion.
Summer Fun Campaign
Beyond the races, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has launched the “Hong Kong Summer Fun” campaign, blending major cultural events with limited-time travel offers. Visitors can enjoy a Dragon Boat Food Lane and Beer Garden at the Avenue of Stars, along with themed installations and interactive experiences celebrating dragon boat heritage.
Cultural Workshops and VR
Festival-goers can participate in cultural heritage workshops such as fishing net plaiting, blown sugar making, and lye rice dumpling making. Interactive experiences, including virtual reality dragon boat paddling, offer a fresh perspective on the sport. A dedicated live viewing zone will allow visitors to watch the action from Victoria Harbour up close.
Travel Offers
As part of the campaign, HKTB is offering travel deals from June 15 to August 31. Tourists who book hotels via Trip.com or Ctrip worth at least HK$1,500 for travel between July 1 and September 14 can enjoy attraction ticket offers and public transport discounts of up to 50 percent.
