The Davao City government, in collaboration with Sunrise Events and major sponsors, officially launched preparations for the BYD Ironman 70.3 Davao during a ceremonial signing on Thursday. This event underscores the strengthened partnerships and community-driven initiatives that will support the world-class racing experience.
City Officials Emphasize Safety and Hospitality
Atty. Francis Mark Layog, City Administrator, emphasized the significance of such events in bringing vitality to Davao City. "Races like these bring life to the already alive Davao City, and it pushes boundaries outward not just in the Philippines, but around the globe," he stated. He added that preparations are actively underway, with the city's safety and security cluster working around the clock to enhance emergency response and ensure the well-being of participants and spectators alike.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by Atty. Layog, highlighted that this year's Ironman 70.3 is a key feature of the Araw ng Dabaw celebration in March. "We hope to meet them all with the warm Dabawenyo hospitality and foster camaraderie during the city's charter anniversary," he said, welcoming both newcomers and seasoned athletes to the event.
Cultural Recognition and Event Details
To promote diversity and unity, the city and event organizers are reintroducing the Tribung Maisugon Award, honoring Davao City's 11 ethnolinguistic groups. This award adds a cultural dimension to the triathlon, celebrating local heritage alongside athletic excellence.
The BYD Ironman 70.3 will feature all swim, run, and bike courses within Davao City, utilizing the scenic Davao Coastal Road with Talomo Bay's calm waters and the majestic Mt. Apo as a backdrop. This setup promises an exhilarating and visually stunning experience for athletes and fans.
