Cepca President's Cup Chess Tournament Attracts Nearly 100 Players

The Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) President's Cup is set to take place this Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the CCC Chess Club on the 4th floor of Robinsons Galleria Cebu. Nearly 100 chess players are expected to compete in the tournament, with the number likely to increase as late registrants sign up on the day of the competition, which begins at 10:30 am.

Top Contenders

One of the most anticipated participants is National Master Merben Roque, who recently secured victory at the Grandmaster Challenge: Philippine-Russian Open Chess Tournament 2026, held from May 23 to 24. Roque's next target is the Cepca President's Cup, where he will face stiff competition from other titled players, including National Masters Rommel Ganzon and Diego Abraham Caparino, FIDE Master Anthony Makinano, and International Master Rico Mascarinas.

Prize Pool and Categories

The tournament, organized as a birthday treat by Cepca president Engr. Jerry Maratas for the Cebuano chess community, offers a total prize pool of P50,000. The champion will receive P20,000, while the runner-up will get P10,000. Third to sixth places will earn P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively. Additionally, special category incentives of P1,000 and P500 will be awarded to the top two performers in categories such as Cepcans A and B, lady, senior, U8, U12, U16, and U20.
