UC Webmasters Secure Historic Back-to-Back Cesafi Volleyball Championship
The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters men's volleyball team has etched their name in Cesafi history, capturing a consecutive championship title in a heart-stopping five-set battle against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers. The thrilling finale unfolded on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the USPF Gym, culminating in a 22-20 fifth-set victory that left fans breathless.
A Match of Dramatic Twists and Turns
Under the strategic guidance of head coach John Abas, the Webmasters appeared poised for a swift victory, dominating the initial sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-19. This commanding 2-0 lead suggested an imminent conclusion, but the host Panthers demonstrated remarkable resilience. Refusing to concede on their home court, USPF mounted a fierce comeback, claiming the third set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-20 to force a decisive fifth set.
The Climactic Fifth-Set Showdown
The final set evolved into an epic back-and-forth struggle, featuring multiple deuces as neither team could secure the necessary two-point advantage. USPF initially surged ahead 10-7, propelled by standout performances from Christian Casas, Mark Canturias, and Spencer Carcuevas. However, UC responded with equal fervor, led by Christian Carampatana, Quiades Labos, and Jose Illustrisimo.
Illustrisimo, a graduating senior, showcased veteran leadership with consecutive kills and a crucial block to level the score at 14-14. The tension escalated until Labos delivered the championship-winning point with a clever drop ball that outmaneuvered the USPF defense, sealing the historic 22-20 victory.
