Police in Cebu City have issued a stern warning to 18 vendors who were intercepted for aggressively selling soap to motorists on Gorordo Avenue in Barangay Lahug on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Traffic Disruption
The vendors were flagged down near JY Square after their activities caused significant traffic congestion, which had previously been condemned by Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival.
Police Operation
Under the directive of Police Colonel George Ylanan, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit (TMRU) intercepted the 18 vendors and brought them to the CCPO headquarters for interview, validation, documentation, and identity verification.
Colonel Ylanan personally addressed the vendors, emphasizing that their actions posed risks and contributed to traffic congestion in the city. The vendors were initially given a warning, but their names were recorded by the CCPO before they were turned over to Barangay Lahug in coordination with Mabolo Police Station 4.
Complaints and Modus
The CCPO had received multiple complaints regarding the group's modus operandi. According to reports, the vendors would aggressively sell their powdered soap by enticing potential buyers to accept the product, even if they were not sure about purchasing. They would then engage the victims in conversation until they were convinced to buy.
Authorities remind the public to remain vigilant and report similar incidents to the police.
