The provincial government of Pampanga has confirmed that the highly anticipated Pampanga Food (Rice) Complex, situated in Barangay Sta. Catalina within the municipality of Lubao, is scheduled to commence operations before the end of the current year. This announcement marks a significant milestone in the region's agricultural development and food security initiatives.
High-Profile Inspection and Collaborative Funding
On Tuesday, a distinguished delegation conducted a comprehensive inspection of the facility to assess its progress. The group included Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., Former President and current Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda, Vice Governor Dennis "Delta" Pineda, and Lubao Mayor Esmeralda Pineda. Their presence underscores the project's importance at both local and national levels.
The provincial government has allocated a substantial budget exceeding ₱270 million specifically for site development, road concreting, and the construction of the rice complex infrastructure. In a collaborative effort, the DA has contributed an additional ₱50 million dedicated to the procurement of essential machinery and equipment for the complex.
Equipment and Support from National Agencies
Further bolstering the initiative, the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) has provided significant support as a counterpart. PhilMech has supplied two advanced rice mills and five circulating dryers to enhance post-harvest processing capabilities. Additionally, the agency has contributed a range of agricultural machinery, including six tractors, four harvesters, and four precision seeders, all designed to assist farmers once the complex becomes fully operational.
Currently, installation of this equipment at the facility is actively underway, with teams working diligently to ensure all systems are functional and ready for launch. This phase is critical to meeting the projected opening timeline.
