Ateneo de Davao University has issued a statement regarding the unauthorized sale of merchandise and fundraising materials bearing its name, logo, seal, trademarks, and other official marks in connection with the recent tragedy involving Rene.
The university clarified that it has not authorized any individual, organization, business, or group to use its intellectual property for the production, promotion, sale, or distribution of such items. The unauthorized use of university marks violates its intellectual property rights and may create a false impression of official endorsement.
Individuals or entities found using university marks without authorization may face demands to cease and desist, assessment of licensing fees and damages, and administrative, civil, or criminal actions under intellectual property laws.
While the university acknowledges the goodwill and solidarity shown by many, it emphasized that all fundraising initiatives must respect legal requirements, institutional policies, and the dignity of those affected. The public is advised to verify the legitimacy of any campaign or merchandise claiming association with the university.
The university reserves all rights to protect its name, reputation, intellectual property, and community interests.
