How the Fraudulent Scheme Operated
The airline's investigation revealed a concerning pattern. Individuals used stolen or unauthorized credit card details to book flights with Cebu Pacific. These illegitimate bookings were then converted into the airline's Travel Funds system. The perpetrators subsequently offered these fraudulently obtained Travel Funds for resale at discounted rates through unauthorized online channels.
The illegal resale primarily occurred within specific Facebook groups. Cebu Pacific identified the following groups as platforms for these activities:
