The Cebu Provincial Government announced that more than 1,000 slots remain available for first-year college students under its grant program until June 30, 2026. This opportunity is open to current first-year students, while applications for new first-year students will begin on July 1.
Application Schedule and Details
Christopher Baricuatro, executive assistant and focal person of the Provincial School Board, disclosed the dates and schedule during an interview with SunStar Cebu on Friday, May 29. He noted that the ongoing application is for first-year students enrolled in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and other public colleges. Baricuatro also mentioned that slots under each Provincial Board member have already been filled.
For the incoming school year 2026-2027, the Cebu Provincial School Board will open a total of 5,400 slots to be distributed through local officials.
Slot Allocation
- Each of the 19 board members receives 100 slots, totaling 1,900 slots.
- The vice governor has 1,000 slots.
- The governor's office has 2,500 slots.
Previously, the grant was only available through provincial board members. However, following an approved ordinance amendment on September 29, 2025, the program was expanded to include 2,500 slots for the governor's office and 1,000 slots for the vice governor's office, in addition to the 100 slots per board member.
Application Process
Baricuatro explained that students who wish to apply for the program can use two methods. The provincial government will process all applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested students who qualify for the program must prepare the following documents:
- A certified true and correct copy of the Senior High School report card, including the 1st and 2nd semester, showing a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 85 percent.
- An original document signed by the school principal and endorsed by the District Supervisor, or a certified true photocopy of the same.
- An official document proving the applicant's residency, such as a voter's certificate issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the student.
Baricuatro emphasized that all applications must be complete and submitted before the deadline to ensure consideration.
