DPWH Allocates ₱75 Million to Revive Stalled Arayat Bridge Project
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has made a significant financial commitment to complete the long-delayed San Agustin Norte Bridge in Arayat, Pampanga. Secretary Vince Dizon, along with Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis Pineda and other local officials, conducted a thorough site inspection on Friday, January 23, 2026, to assess the project's status and address ongoing challenges.
Funding Breakthrough After Eight-Year Delay
Following the inspection, the DPWH pledged ₱75 million to fund the completion of the bridge, which has been stalled for nearly eight years due to persistent funding issues. The provincial government of Pampanga confirmed this commitment, highlighting it as a crucial step toward resolving infrastructure delays in the region. The DPWH is currently reviewing other postponed projects in Pampanga to ensure efficient allocation of resources and timely execution.
Inspection of Infrastructure and Flood Control Measures
During the visit, officials not only examined the bridge but also inspected critical flood control structures, including the Arnedo dike in Barangay Cupang. This dike was recently partly damaged, underscoring the urgency of maintaining and upgrading local infrastructure to protect communities from natural disasters. The comprehensive review aimed to identify immediate needs and prioritize repairs to enhance public safety.
Collaborative Efforts to Overcome Right-of-Way Issues
To facilitate the project's progress, the provincial government and the Arayat local government unit have vowed to address remaining right-of-way concerns. This collaborative approach is essential to prevent further delays and ensure the bridge can be completed within the year, as committed by the DPWH. Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, alongside DPWH officials and local leaders, played a key role in assisting Secretary Dizon during the inspection, demonstrating unified support for the initiative.
Expected Benefits and Future Coordination
The completion of the San Agustin Norte Bridge is anticipated to significantly improve mobility and ensure safe passage for residents and motorists in Arayat. By enhancing connectivity, the project will contribute to local economic development and daily convenience. The provincial government emphasized that coordination with the DPWH and local governments will continue until the project is fully realized, ensuring all stakeholders remain engaged throughout the process.
