Vision for Aviation-Led Development
Speaking at the 85th-anniversary celebration of Philippine Airlines (PAL) and the showcase of the Airbus A350-1000 at Villamor Air Base on Saturday, January 17, 2026, the President emphasized the government's unwavering focus on infrastructure enhancement. He stated that modernizing airports and strengthening inter-regional links are crucial for propelling the national economy forward.
Marcos Jr. also called on the private sector to continue its collaborative partnership with the government. He stressed that such cooperation is vital for sustaining aviation initiatives and broadening opportunities for all Filipinos.
Key Airport Projects Across the Nation
The President highlighted several ongoing airport projects designed to improve passenger experience and bolster local economies. These strategic developments are part of a broader plan to enhance air connectivity and support key industries.
In Siargao, a premier tourist destination, the construction of a modular Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at Siargao Airport is underway. This project aims to better serve the influx of visitors to the island.
In Davao, a new international PTB is currently being built at Davao International Airport. This expansion is expected to significantly boost the region's capacity for international travel and commerce.
Through public-private partnerships (PPPs), the government has also commenced the upgrade and expansion of both Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental and the Bohol-Panglao International Airport. According to President Marcos, these projects are targeted at improving air links in the Visayas and Mindanao while supporting tourism and regional development.
Furthermore, at Caticlan Airport, the main gateway to Boracay, a new terminal has been erected to accommodate more local and foreign travelers efficiently.
Modernizing the Nation's Main Gateway
President Marcos gave particular emphasis to the modernization of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), being carried out under a PPP framework. He explained that the effort encompasses the modernization, operation, and maintenance of the country's primary gateway.
This includes installing new facilities and immigration eGates engineered to make travel faster, safer, and more efficient. The President clarified that superior airport facilities are indispensable for sustaining the tourism sector, a major driver of the Philippine economy.
Marcos Jr. framed these infrastructure initiatives as more than mere physical upgrades. He described them as long-term investments in national mobility, opportunity, and progress.
