After an eight-year standstill, the construction of the new San Agustin Norte Bridge in Arayat, Pampanga, is finally back on track, promising to enhance connectivity and safety for thousands of residents and motorists across Central Luzon.
Long-Awaited Project Restarts
Mayor Jeffrey Luriz of Arayat confirmed that work on the crucial infrastructure project resumed in December 2025. The mayor expressed profound gratitude to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon for prioritizing the bridge's completion, which had been a long-standing plea of the community.
"We are thankful for the opportunity to address the longstanding appeal of our constituents regarding this bridge, which had been delayed for eight years. In December, it started again. The DPWH came to me to inform me that the project is now continuous," Mayor Luriz stated.
A Vital Link for Central Luzon
The significance of the San Agustin Norte Bridge extends far beyond the borders of Arayat. Located along Jose Abad Santos Avenue, the new bridge will replace the old and risky structure that runs parallel to it. This artery serves as a major connector, linking Arayat and the rest of Pampanga to Nueva Ecija via the town of Cabiao.
"Not only Arayateños and Kapampangans will benefit because this is a major route going to Nueva Ecija, in the areas of Cabiao and Gapan," Mayor Luriz emphasized. The project's revival is seen as a critical development for inter-provincial travel and commerce.
Boosting Safety and the Local Economy
The primary driver for replacing the bridge is public safety. The existing structure is old and has been deemed a risk to the safety of daily commuters and residents. The new bridge is expected to eliminate these hazards, providing a modern and secure passage.
Furthermore, local officials anticipate a positive economic ripple effect. The completion of the bridge, targeted for this year according to Secretary Dizon's assurance, is projected to benefit the transport sector significantly and give a boost to the local economy of Arayat and surrounding towns by improving the flow of goods and people.
The resumption of this long-delayed project marks a significant step forward in the region's infrastructure development, addressing both immediate safety concerns and long-term economic growth.
