DTI's Diskwento Caravan Brings Post-Disaster Relief to Danao City
DTI Holds Discount Caravan for Danao City Post-Disaster

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) brought immediate economic relief to residents of Danao City, Cebu, through a special post-disaster edition of its Diskwento Caravan. The event was held at the City Hall Grounds on Sunday, December 21, 2025, offering a wide range of goods at significantly reduced prices to help communities bounce back.

Essential Goods at Affordable Prices

This crucial initiative focused on providing access to basic necessities for families, particularly those with low to middle incomes. A variety of products were made available at lower-than-market prices, which included items vital for both daily living and recovery efforts. The offerings featured Noche Buena packages for the holiday season, essential appliances, and crucial construction materials for repairing homes damaged by recent calamities.

A Collaborative Effort for Community Support

The caravan was a joint undertaking between the national agency and the local government, highlighting a strong partnership aimed at consumer welfare and economic stimulation. DTI 7 Acting Director Esperanza T. L. Melgar was present to lead the national government's support. She was joined by Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III and City Councilor Don Roel Arias, alongside other DTI personnel and local officials.

Organizers emphasized the dual purpose of the event. Primarily, it aimed to assist families impacted by recent disasters by easing their financial burden in acquiring essential goods. Secondly, the caravan served as a platform to support local businesses and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing them a direct channel to the community.

More Than Just a Sale: A Flagship Program for Recovery

The Diskwento Caravan is a flagship program of the DTI designed to bridge the gap between affordable, quality products and consumers in various communities. This post-disaster edition in Danao City specifically adapted the program's goals to address urgent recovery needs. By selling goods at a discount, the activity directly contributed to strengthening consumer welfare during a difficult time while simultaneously injecting support into the local economy. The Danao City Government officially reported on the successful activity through its Facebook page, keeping citizens informed of such supportive measures.
