In a significant boost for education in Mindanao, the ML Cares Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of M Lhuillier, has successfully concluded a transformative initiative for four public schools in South Cotabato. The project, completed and turned over in January 2026, directly addressed critical gaps in resources that were hindering effective learning.
Beyond Donations: A Holistic Approach to Learning Barriers
The foundation targeted Little Baguio Elementary School, Camp 7 Elementary School, Ricardo Y. Reluya Jr. Technical-Vocational High School, Manguilamon Elementary School, and Lawaan Elementary School. For these institutions, the lack of basic tools was a major obstacle, not a minor issue. ML Cares' intervention was designed to be immediate and functional.
Each school received brand-new, complete computer sets equipped with printers and scanners, ensuring students and teachers had working technology from day one. Additionally, the schools were provided with essential supplies and new, lighted signage, boosting both morale and visibility within their communities.
Addressing Hunger to Enhance Focus
What made this initiative stand out was its recognition that technology alone isn't enough. The foundation understood that hungry students cannot concentrate on lessons, regardless of the tools available.
To solve this, feeding programs were launched at Camp 7 Elementary School and Manguilamon Elementary School. This dual strategy of providing both nutrition and digital access represents a holistic model for educational support, tackling daily challenges students face simultaneously.
A Visible Impact on Students and Educators
The results of the initiative are already clear. Where students once had to crowd around a single computer, they now have proper access to digital literacy. Teachers can redirect energy from scrounging for materials to actual instruction. The new signage proudly declares the importance of these schools.
During the turnover ceremonies, the relief and excitement from school officials were palpable. For dedicated educators working with limited means, this support served as a powerful validation that their students deserve every opportunity to succeed.
This multi-school project embodies M Lhuillier's commitment to community transformation. The ML Cares Foundation demonstrated its philosophy by not just donating funds, but by engaging with the communities, listening to their specific needs, and delivering integrated, practical solutions.
As these four schools in South Cotabato move forward, a fundamental shift has occurred. Students are now equipped with modern tools for their future, and more importantly, they carry the lesson that their starting point does not define their destination.
