Basti Artadi, the lead vocalist of the iconic rock band Wolfgang, has publicly addressed a viral video that captured him ordering the removal of an audience member during the band's reunion concert in Davao last week. In a video message uploaded this Tuesday, Artadi explained that the incident occurred while he was paying tribute to the band's late bassist, Mon Legaspi, who passed away in 2022.
Context of the Tribute Interruption
According to Artadi, several individuals interrupted his moment of respect, leading to heightened tension at the event. He described their actions as disrespectful, stating, "And that was bastos, simple as that." The frontman emphasized that the circulating video has sparked misinterpretations and even political exploitation, which he believes drives people apart rather than uniting them.
Root Cause of the Conflict
Artadi detailed that the altercation stemmed from audience members heckling with political stunts during his tribute to Legaspi. The viral footage shows some attendees shouting political remarks while he was honoring his former bandmate. After repeated disruptions, Artadi expressed his frustration, saying, "if you want to do your freedom of speech, go to the fu— hallways and do it there because right here, this is rock n' roll country. And I'm talking about Mon Legaspi so keep quiet for a bit so I can share a little bit about this guy."
Unable to contain his irritation, Artadi instructed security to escort the disruptive audience member out of the venue. The incident was followed by cheers from the crowd, and the band proceeded to perform their song "Anino," continuing the concert without further interruptions.
