Love Triumphs Over Wealth: Driver Wins Teacher's Heart
Love Triumphs Over Wealth: Driver Wins Teacher's Heart

Rose Rodriguez is a professional teacher at a prestigious private university in Cebu. She is the only child of Don Ernesto Rodriguez and Doña Carmen Rodriguez, one of the most prominent business families in the city. They own several commercial buildings, transportation companies, and other businesses.

An Unexpected Encounter

One of their drivers is Fidel Moreno, hardworking, respectful, and known for his understanding nature. After his last trip each night, he would park the car beside the Rodriguez mansion and deliver the key inside the house.

One evening, as Fidel walked to the door to hand over the key, he was surprised by what he saw. Rose was sitting in the mansion's living room. “Good evening, Ma’am Rose,” Fidel said shyly.

“Good evening too, Fidel,” Rose replied as she looked at him. For the first time, they had a real conversation. They had never really noticed each other before. Fidel noticed Rose’s fair and smooth skin and her beautiful smile. Rose also noticed Fidel’s honest and gentle eyes.

“Why didn’t you come to the university today, Ma’am?” Fidel asked. Rose smiled but pain was visible on her face. “I was dizzy. My foot swelled after I tripped yesterday. It’s hard to walk.”

“Oh, that must be painful, Ma’am.” Rose suddenly asked, “Fidel, do you know how to massage sprains?” “I tried before. My grandfather taught me. I also healed some neighbors.” “Can you massage me?”

Fidel was embarrassed but nodded. “If that’s what you want, Ma’am.” There on the living room bench, Fidel gently massaged Rose’s foot. After a few minutes, Rose felt relief. “It seems the pain is gone,” she said laughing. “Just tell me if it still hurts,” Fidel replied.

Growing Closer

From then on, they talked more often. Every night when Fidel came to hand over the key, Rose would always wait. Their conversations became longer and deeper. They discussed their dreams, worries, and hopes in life.

One night, Rose said, “Fidel, why do you seem happy even though you have many problems?” Fidel replied, “Because I believe true wealth is not money, but peace of heart.” Rose fell silent. She was drawn to Fidel’s wisdom and kindness.

Over the months, they became friends and later fell in love. But they kept their relationship secret due to the difference in their social status.

Confrontation

One day, Don Ernesto and Doña Carmen caught them hugging behind the mansion in the flower garden. “Have you gone crazy, Rose?” Don Ernesto shouted. “You chose a mere driver!”

“Papa, one’s job is not a measure of a person’s character,” Rose replied. “This cannot happen!” Doña Carmen also shouted. Don Ernesto stared at Fidel. “From now on, you are fired! And never show up here again!” “Sir, it’s true that I love Rose,” Fidel said bravely. “Leave!” Don Ernesto yelled.

Fidel was forced to leave. But soon, Rose followed him. “Rose!” Fidel stopped. “Are you sure about this?” “Yes. I would rather choose the person I love than all their wealth.”

A New Life

They moved to a mountainous area where Fidel’s family lived. Rose’s parents were furious. “If you disobey us, you will receive nothing from our properties!” Don Ernesto warned. Rose replied, “I accept your decision. But I will not trade my happiness for riches.”

Life in the mountains was hard. No maids, luxurious houses, or expensive cars. But they worked together to face each day. One night, while looking at the stars, Fidel apologized. “Forgive me, Rose. I couldn’t give you the life you were used to.”

Rose closed her eyes and smiled, hugging Fidel tightly. “Fidel, love is not seen in the size of a house or the amount of money. I found true happiness here with you.” Fidel held her hand.

Though they did not receive the wealth of the Rodriguez family, they attained a treasure that money cannot buy—true love, trust, and joy that come from the heart. And that was their greatest victory against life’s trials.
