Nadine Lustre Voices Strong Support for Leni Robredo's Potential 2028 Presidential Bid
Actress Nadine Lustre has publicly affirmed her endorsement for Naga City Mayor and former Vice President Leni Robredo, should Robredo decide to enter the 2028 presidential race. In a recent statement, Lustre emphasized her unwavering backing, highlighting Robredo's qualifications and leadership qualities.
Robredo's Hesitation and Lustre's Perspective
In October, Robredo expressed concerns that using her current position as a "jump-off point" for an election would be "unfair" to Naga City. However, Lustre countered this view, noting that "sometimes, the best Presidents are those who don't want to run." She added that if Robredo changes her mind and decides to run again, she would definitely support and endorse her candidacy. "There's no question about that. For me, she's really the best candidate for the Presidency," Lustre stated firmly.
Opposition Discussions and Support from Leaders
On February 5, key opposition figures, including Robredo, held a meeting to discuss future political strategies. When asked if Robredo is still considered a frontrunner for 2028, Senator Bam Aquino responded, "Of course, many want her to run, but you have to ask her also about her plans." Meanwhile, Mamamayang Liberal Party List Representative Leila de Lima expressed optimism about Robredo's potential candidacy. "We're not losing hope that VP Leni will change her decision to run again in 2028. As for me, she's the most winnable among potential opposition candidates," De Lima remarked.
Emphasis on Governance and Animal Welfare Initiatives
De Lima further elaborated on the importance of leadership, stating, "When there is clean and good governance, it will be significantly reduced for sure if a leader truly upholds clean and good governance." Both Lustre and De Lima made these statements at the House of Representatives yesterday, following the filing of bills aimed at establishing an Animal Welfare Desk in all police stations and creating an Animal Welfare Ombudsman Unit to strengthen the enforcement of animal safety laws. This move underscores their commitment to broader social issues beyond politics.
The growing support from celebrities like Nadine Lustre and political figures signals a potential shift in the 2028 electoral landscape, with Robredo's candidacy remaining a focal point of discussion among opposition groups and the public alike.
