Amid the surge or trend of gadgets, most of today's youth have shifted their entertainment, pastime, or games to mobile phones, tablets, laptops, or personal computers, among others. Fewer children nowadays play in the yard, town, streets, or fields games like bato lata, tago-tago, balay-balay, dakop-dakop, kite flying, syatong, buwan-buwan, or even climbing guava or mango trees.
Traditional Games Still Alive in Cebu City
However, despite the changes in this modern age, there are still children who enjoy traditional games that can still be seen on the streets of Carbon Market, Cebu City. Children in the area played Chinese garter, pog, flying paper airplanes, and kite flying.
The children took advantage of their vacation and had the opportunity to play because there were no classes on Friday, June 12, 2026, due to the celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day.
This scene reminds us of the past when children's happiness was simple, but now it is rarely seen due to the emergence of modern technology.
