A recent survey by the Department of Science and Technology–Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) reveals that three out of ten Filipinos still experience food insecurity. The 2025 data shows that 32.6% of the population is food insecure, a slight decrease from 33% in 2023.
Severe Food Insecurity
Among those affected, 2.9% suffer from severe food insecurity, meaning they go without food for a day or more. This highlights the ongoing challenge of hunger in the country.
Government Response
DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. emphasized the need to strengthen livelihoods to reduce food insecurity and poverty. The presidential anti-poverty office and other agencies are also working to address this issue promptly.
