A 23-year-old motorcycle rider was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) after sustaining multiple injuries when his motorcycle collided with a taxi along General Maxilom Avenue in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, around 4:00 AM on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Victim and driver identified

The motorcycle rider, identified only by the alias “Loyd,” a resident of Mandaue City, was immediately assisted by members of the Cebu City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) who were first to respond at the scene. The taxi driver was identified as Warren Cumayas, 46 years old.

Taxi driver's account

According to Cumayas, he was coming from Pier 4 and was traveling along Benedicto Street in Barangay Tejero, heading home to his garage in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City. As he turned left onto General Maxilom Avenue, he noticed the motorcycle swerving and then crashing into the side of his taxi. Cumayas added that the motorcycle was at a “stop” signal but continued due to the slippery road conditions.

Cumayas also sustained a hand injury when he shielded his head after the window shattered and part of the driver's seat was damaged.

Investigation ongoing

As of this writing, the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is conducting an investigation into the incident.
