A 50-year-old Taiwanese woman died after an apparent drowning while snorkeling in the waters of Panagsama, Barangay Basdiot, Moalboal town, on May 15, 2026.
The victim was identified only by the alias Yesia. The Moalboal Police Station received a report around 12:30 p.m. from tourist police officer Police Staff Sergeant Ronilo Quirante about a drowning incident.
According to the investigation, the victim was with her husband, identified by the alias Chung. Chung stated that he surfaced to rest while his wife continued snorkeling. After a few minutes, he noticed she was no longer moving in the water and immediately sought help from guides.
The victim was rushed to Badian District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. Further investigation revealed that the victim and her husband did not avail of the services of a snorkeling guide.
