Three siblings die in Quezon City electrocution

Three siblings died from electrocution while attempting to rescue each other at their apartment in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City on Friday evening, July 10, 2026. The victims, aged 19, 15, and 12, were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation findings

Based on initial investigation, the tragedy occurred around 6 p.m. when one of the siblings was collecting clothes hung on a clothesline outside their apartment. Authorities believe the victim accidentally touched the metal clothesline, causing electrocution, and called for help. Upon hearing this, the 19-year-old sibling rushed to assist, followed by the 12-year-old. However, both were also electrocuted after touching the same electrified area.

The fourth sibling, the youngest of the family, attempted to help but stopped after feeling an electric shock when touching a nearby window. Realizing the danger, the child instead went downstairs to seek help from neighbors.

Response and investigation

Responders from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office arrived promptly and brought the three victims to the hospital. Despite rescue efforts, all three were declared dead. Initial findings from the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) showed that the circuit breaker connected to the apartment's air-conditioning unit appeared to be grounded, increasing the likelihood of an electrical fault within the building's wiring system.

Investigators continue to examine the scene to determine the exact cause of the incident, including whether defective wiring or the metal clothesline was responsible for the tragedy.
