DENR Boosts Watershed Protection with Waste Collection Vehicle Deployment

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has taken a significant step to enhance environmental conservation by turning over 10 waste collection vehicles to selected barangays within the Pantabangan–Carranglan Watershed Forest Reserve. This initiative aims to strengthen solid waste management, improve waste collection efficiency, and help protect the watershed's natural resources.

Targeted Support for Local Communities

The project specifically targets barangays in Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya, providing them with waste collection tricycles to address local waste management challenges. According to the DENR, this effort is designed to improve waste collection efficiency at the barangay level, reduce improper waste disposal, and support conservation efforts within the protected watershed area.

The recipients include:

  • Seven barangays in Nueva Ecija: Burgos, San Agustin, D.L. Maglanoc, G.S. Rosario, Bunga, Salazar, and Gen. Luna in Carranglan town
  • Three barangays in Nueva Vizcaya: Canabuan in Sta. Fe, Canabuan in Aritao, and Lukidnon in Dupax del Sur

Funding and Strategic Partnerships

Funded through the Integrated Protected Area Fund, this project supports local government units in implementing solid waste management programs within protected areas. The DENR emphasizes that it works closely with communities and other government agencies to strengthen waste management practices and safeguard natural resources, particularly in watersheds and other protected areas.

"Our partnership with our local government units is one of our foundations in our fight against pollution," the DENR stated. "With their aid, we can lessen the damage that can devastate our ecosystems and our protected areas."

Broader Environmental Impact

This deployment represents a concrete action toward addressing pollution and promoting sustainable waste management in ecologically sensitive regions. By equipping local communities with the necessary tools, the DENR aims to create a more effective system for waste collection that prevents environmental degradation and supports the long-term health of the watershed's ecosystems.

The initiative underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between national agencies and local governments in achieving environmental protection goals, particularly in areas critical to biodiversity and water resource management.
