Mandaue Police Personnel Face Typhoon Devastation

The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) has confirmed that 96 police personnel suffered significant impacts from Typhoons Tino and Uwan, according to Director Police Colonel Cirilo Acosta. The announcement came on Monday, November 17, 2025, revealing the extensive damage faced by officers across the region.

Colonel Acosta detailed that many affected personnel experienced partial or total destruction of their homes, with at least 10 officers seeing their houses completely demolished by the powerful storms. The typhoon-affected police members come from various areas within MCPO's jurisdiction, including Liloan, Consolacion, Mandaue City, and surrounding locations.

Immediate Response and Support Measures

Despite facing personal tragedies, the police force demonstrated remarkable professionalism. MCPO personnel reported for duty even before the typhoons made landfall, showing exceptional dedication to their community responsibilities.

"We gave them four hours to prepare," Acosta explained. "We allowed them time to ensure their families were safe and to secure provisions before the storm arrived." This strategic decision enabled officers to balance family safety with their duty to protect the public during the natural disasters.

Assistance from the Regional Headquarters has already reached the affected personnel, with Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) Director Redrico Maranan instructing commanders to prioritize officer welfare while continuing disaster response operations.

Ongoing Relief Efforts and Community Support

The police command has taken concrete steps to support their personnel during this challenging period. MCPO has distributed essential goods to affected officers, with additional support coming from various individuals and organizations sending donations that are immediately given to officers on the ground.

Acosta emphasized the command's commitment: "The headquarters is helping. Our chief of police is committed to assisting all affected personnel." He noted that the regional director sent vegetables and goods just one day after the typhoon's onslaught, providing crucial additional support.

While the specific amount of financial assistance remains undetermined, Acosta confirmed that the command wants to ensure all personnel "receive help, even just initial assistance, both financial and in goods, so they can support themselves and their families this week."

Acosta, along with other officers, personally inspected flood-affected areas in Consolacion and Liloan where floodwaters remained visible. He commended his team's dedication, stating: "Their professionalism is admirable. Even though they were affected themselves, they still managed to report for duty and assist affected residents in Mandaue City."
