Bacolod Fire Destroys 29 Houses, Displaces 90 People

A devastating fire swept through Lamperong Compound in Barangay 2, Bacolod City, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, resulting in the destruction of at least 29 houses and displacing numerous families. The incident has prompted immediate relief efforts from local authorities and lawmakers to support the affected residents.

Fire Details and Response

According to records from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Bacolod, the blaze originated at the house owned by Rosalie Alburoto at 1:15 p.m. The fire rapidly spread to neighboring structures, many of which were constructed from light and concrete materials, exacerbating the damage.

Firefighters faced significant challenges in accessing the area due to narrow passageways, forcing them to pull and connect water hoses manually to combat the flames. Despite these obstacles, the fire was extinguished by 1:29 p.m., but not before causing an estimated P296,250 worth of property damage.

Impact on Families and Community

The BFP raised a second alarm status as the fire affected approximately 45 families, comprising 90 individuals. Of the 29 houses impacted, 20 were completely destroyed, while nine sustained partial damage. Many of the displaced residents have sought temporary shelter at the barangay evacuation center, where they are receiving essential aid.

Arson investigators are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Relief and Assistance Efforts

In response to the crisis, the City Government, with support from the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), has provided food packs to the affected individuals. Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, DSSD head, noted that the validation of the total number of affected families is still ongoing to ensure comprehensive assistance.

Bacolod City Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez also stepped in to offer aid, including packed meals and hot soup. His team coordinated relief efforts promptly, with volunteers and staff personally delivering these supplies to the families, many of whom are staying in nearby areas following the incident.

"We want our affected residents to know that they are not alone. Our office will continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance as needed," Benitez stated. He emphasized his commitment to working closely with city and barangay officials to assess additional needs and ensure that further support reaches those impacted.

The lawmaker expressed deep concern for the safety and welfare of the victims, reaffirming his office's dedication to supporting communities during emergencies. As recovery efforts continue, the focus remains on providing immediate relief and long-term assistance to help the displaced families rebuild their lives.
