The Cebu City Council approved the release of P5 million in financial aid for General Santos City during its regular session on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The assistance aims to support relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts following the earthquake that hit Mindanao.
Funding Source
The funds will be sourced from the city's share of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) funds. Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. requested approval from the council through a letter addressed to Councilor David Tumulak, chairman of the Committee on Budget and Finance.
Mayor's Justification
In his letter, Archival stated that the aid is intended to provide support to communities affected by the earthquake and help address the needs of residents who were displaced by the disaster.
The aid is in line with the Omnibus Guidelines on the Handling and Disposition of the Host City's Share of Pagcor funds, which allows the use of such funds for emergency assistance to victims of natural calamities and similar emergencies.
Fund Availability
The measure was supported by a Certificate of Availability of Funds, confirming that P5 million is available for this purpose.
