A deadly landslide at a waste facility in Cebu City has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries, with emergency operations continuing into the night. The incident occurred at the staff housing and office area of Prime Waste Inc. located in Barangay Binaliw.
Casualties and Emergency Response
Councilor Dave Tumulak, who chairs the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC), confirmed the tragic event on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Initial reports indicated more than twenty individuals were potentially trapped following the collapse.
By 7:35 p.m., responders had successfully extricated seven people from the site. The condition of the victims was categorized using triage tags: three were in critical condition (red), one required urgent care (yellow), two had minor injuries (green), and one was declared deceased (black).
Rescue Operations and Hospital Coordination
Emergency teams mobilized quickly, deploying ambulances, a rescue truck, and personnel from police and traffic management units to the scene. Authorities established an Incident Command Post to oversee the complex operation.
Medical teams set up an Advanced Medical Post and a staging area to manage the flow of patients. Four patients, including those in critical condition, were transported to VisayasMed Hospital for treatment. The body of the deceased was taken to North General Hospital.

Search, rescue, and retrieval operations are ongoing as officials work to determine the full scope of the landslide. In a statement released Thursday evening, authorities assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored.
The public has been urged to avoid the area to allow responders to work efficiently. "We ask the public to remain calm ug palihug likayi una ang area aron makalihok og tarong ang atong responders. Official and verified updates will be released through our official channels," the statement read.
Officials have coordinated with multiple agencies and alerted hospitals in the area to prepare for further casualties as the difficult work continues.
