Falling Tree Hits Cebu Home, Injures 19-Year-Old Woman
Falling Tree Injures Woman in Cebu City

A 19-year-old woman was injured after a large eucalyptus tree fell on their house in Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City, around 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Incident Details

According to the victim's father, who identified himself only as Roy, the family had just finished dinner when the tree suddenly snapped and crashed into their home. Roy managed to pull his daughter away just in time, preventing her from being pinned under the debris. However, she sustained a left foot injury, likely from a sharp piece of wood or a nail.

At the time of the incident, the family was in the living room, while the daughter had just come inside after feeding their dog. Roy's 11-year-old son, who was recovering from a recent circumcision in his room, managed to crawl out safely.

Family's Response

Roy expressed mixed emotions, saying, "Sakit kaayo ma’am kay maghuna-huna mi nga balik na sad mi sa uno. Pero pasalamat gihapon nga kumpleto mi." (It was very painful, ma’am, because we thought we were back to square one. But we are still thankful that we are all complete.)

Cause and Aftermath

The house was severely damaged, and authorities advised the family not to re-enter until the fallen tree is fully removed. Roy said they had long requested the barangay to cut down the tree, but the request was not acted upon because a permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources was required.

Residents believe that continuous heavy rains may have softened the soil, causing the tree to collapse. Barangay personnel are currently clearing and cutting the tree for removal. Roy's family is temporarily staying at a sibling's house nearby.
