Actor and public figure Matteo Guidicelli has issued a heartfelt plea for assistance for the residents of Liloan, Cebu, who are grappling with the devastating aftermath of Typhoon Tino.
Ground Zero in Liloan
Taking to Instagram, Guidicelli shared firsthand accounts from his cousin, Donikko Fernan, who has been visiting the storm-ravaged areas to check on family and friends. The actor revealed that the scene in Liloan is one of severe devastation, with local government assistance only arriving days after the typhoon had struck.
More than 100 lives were lost due to the powerful typhoon, with Barangay Cotcot in Liloan being one of the many communities shattered by widespread flooding.
Urgent Needs and a Call to Action
Guidicelli emphasized that the most pressing and immediate need for the survivors is access to clean water. He passionately called for more attention and swifter mobilization from government agencies during such critical times.
"We need more attention. We need faster action. Government has to mobilize quicker in times like this," he wrote. The actor encouraged the public to help in any way possible, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply by amplifying the voices of those affected.
Looking Ahead: A Call for Long-Term Solutions
While expressing gratitude that his own loved ones survived the calamity, Guidicelli pointed out that the hardest part—rebuilding—lies ahead. He also used the opportunity to reflect on the bigger picture, questioning the country's preparedness for the approximately 20 typhoons it faces annually.
He posed a critical question about the need for stronger infrastructure and condemned the potential role of greed and corruption in the suffering of the people, urging for deep reflection on sustainable solutions to prevent future tragedies.
