Fire Destroys 30 Homes in Lapu-Lapu City's Barangay Buaya
Lapu-Lapu fire razes 30 homes in densely populated area

Major Blaze Engulfs Lapu-Lapu Community

A destructive fire swept through Zone 1, Barangay Buaya in Lapu-Lapu City on Monday, November 17, 2025, resulting in the complete destruction of approximately 30 residential houses. The incident was first reported at 10:50 in the morning, prompting an immediate emergency response from local fire authorities.

Origin and Firefighting Challenges

According to Lapu-Lapu City Fire District Superintendent Arnel Abella, preliminary investigations indicate the fire originated from the home of Jerry Godinez. Initial findings suggest that upholstery materials such as cloth and foam may have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. Superintendent Abella emphasized that while this is their initial assessment, the exact cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters faced significant challenges during the operation due to the area's characteristics. The fire occurred in a densely populated neighborhood where houses were constructed primarily from light materials. Compounding the problem, narrow access roads hindered firefighting efforts, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to reach the heart of the blaze effectively.

Emergency Response and Containment

The fire reached second alarm status, triggering a coordinated response that included fire crews from neighboring Mandaue City and Cordova City. Through their collective efforts, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 12:03 in the afternoon, approximately one hour and thirteen minutes after it was first reported.

Remarkably, despite the scale of the destruction, no injuries were reported in connection with the fire. Authorities are currently in the process of determining the total estimated damage caused by this incident.

This fire in Barangay Buaya follows two other recent fire incidents in Lapu-Lapu City, including blazes in Barangay Poblacion, which affected a pharmacy and bakery, and Barangay Marigondon, where a residential house was destroyed.
