According to an investigation by the Minglanilla Police Station, the multicab was being driven by Johnny Floyd Castañares, the barangay captain of Poblacion Ward II. He was reportedly heading toward the national highway when, upon reaching the accident site, the vehicle's brakes allegedly failed. This caused the multicab to veer directly into the group of people who were joyfully dancing as part of the celebration for the Balaang Bata Sr. Santo Niño fiesta in their area.

Following the crash, the injured individuals were quickly transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
