As of June 9, 2026, the earthquake has resulted in at least 37 deaths and displaced over 32,000 people.

DSWD Prepositions Food Packs

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD-Davao) has prepositioned approximately 182,600 family food packs (FFPs) in key areas to ensure immediate services for affected families. The FFPs were distributed across the region: Davao de Oro with 26,291 packs, Davao Occidental with 13,614 packs, Davao del Sur with 6,208 packs, Davao del Norte with 7,074 packs, and Davao Oriental with 15,949 packs.

DSWD-Davao continues to coordinate with local government units and other partner agencies to monitor the situation and ensure prompt delivery of necessary assistance. Apart from FFPs, the office has 26,938 Ready-to-Eat Food packs, 18,675 Non-Food Items, and PHP 3 million in standby funds.

Relief Operations Underway

The office is conducting assessment and response operations to assist all families in need. Meanwhile, DSWD-Soccsksargen has prepositioned 143,614 FFPs and 9,980 NFIs. The DSWD Central Office is prepared to send additional food and non-food items to local government units in Mindanao, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure sufficient supplies for affected families.

Earthquake Details

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Maasim, Sarangani, offshore at 7:37 a.m. on June 8, 2026, and was felt across parts of Mindanao. Phivolcs issued a tsunami warning after the quake. As of June 8, there were 19 casualties and 134 injuries. Several cities, municipalities, and provinces suspended work and classes due to the strong earthquake and aftershocks.
