Residential Fire Affects 30 Homes in Lapu-Lapu City

Major Residential Fire Strikes Lapu-Lapu City Neighborhood

A significant fire erupted in a densely populated residential area of Zone 1, Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City on Monday, November 17, 2025, destroying approximately 30 homes and displacing numerous families. The blaze, which started around 10:50 a.m., quickly spread through the community filled with light and highly combustible structures.

Fire Response and Challenges

According to Lapu-Lapu City Fire District Superintendent Arnel Abella, the fire originated from the home of Jerry Godinez, where upholstery and foam materials were stored. The fire escalated to second alarm status before firefighters managed to bring it under control by 12:03 p.m.

Firefighters encountered significant challenges during their response efforts. Tight and narrow access roads hampered their ability to maneuver equipment efficiently through the congested pathways. Additional fire suppression support arrived from Mandaue City and the neighboring municipality of Cordova to assist in containing the blaze.

Investigation and Damage Assessment

Superintendent Abella confirmed that while the fire apparently started from foam materials, the exact cause remains under investigation. Authorities are coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office to verify the final number of affected households and determine the total damage cost.

Remarkably, no injuries or fatalities were reported from the incident, which officials attribute to the timely response and evacuation efforts.

This fire marks the third recent blaze in Lapu-Lapu City, following earlier incidents in Barangays Poblacion and Marigondon that destroyed a pharmacy stockroom and a house ignited by a kerosene lamp respectively.

The District Fire Marshal has urged residents to remain vigilant and practice fire safety measures, particularly during hot weather conditions that increase fire risks.
