Tragic Fire in Daanbantayan Claims Life of Senior Citizen
A devastating fire erupted on Saturday night, November 22, 2025, in Sitio Cumbado, Barangay Bagay, located in the town of Daanbantayan, Cebu. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a senior citizen, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fire Incident
The fire started at around 7:00 PM and quickly engulfed the house owned by Artemia Capisnon, who is reported to be of advanced age. According to FO2 Darlene Mari, an investigator from the Daanbantayan Fire Station who spoke with SunStar Superbalita Cebu, the blaze originated inside the room of the house, which was constructed from a combination of cement and wood. The flames spread rapidly, leading to the complete destruction of the property.
Firefighters responded promptly, raising the first alarm to combat the fire. While they managed to contain the blaze, it left behind an estimated P100,000 worth of damage. Fortunately, no one was inside the burning house belonging to Artemia Capisnon at the time of the incident.
Fatal Consequences for Neighbor
However, the tragedy struck next door. Angeles Dapat, 67 years old, who resided in a neighboring house, lost her life. FO2 Mari suggested that the victim likely suffered a fatal heart attack, possibly triggered by the shock and panic of seeing the fire erupt. Initial reports indicate that after the victim had moved some of her belongings to safety, she collapsed. Bystanders rushed to help her, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by authorities.
