A destructive fire that raged for more than three hours in a coastal village of Zamboanga City resulted in significant property loss and left three individuals injured on Thursday evening.

Details of the Blaze

The Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) reported that the fire started at approximately 7:48 p.m. on January 8. The incident occurred at a finger wharf located in the coastal village of Rio Hondo.

Firefighters battled the flames, which escalated to a second alarm, before finally bringing the situation under control. The fire was declared extinguished at around 9:55 p.m., after more than three hours of firefighting efforts.

Property Damage and Injuries

The conflagration caused the complete destruction of two motorboats. Initial reports from the ZCFD indicated that one of the vessels was allegedly carrying containers filled with petroleum products, which may have contributed to the intensity of the fire.

The total cost of the properties destroyed is estimated to be around P200,000. Furthermore, the fire resulted in injuries to three people. All of the injured individuals were identified as crew members of the two motorboats that were consumed by the flames. The authorities have not yet released their names.

Ongoing Investigation

As of the latest update, the Zamboanga City Fire District has stated that an investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact cause and origin of the fire that razed the two boats. Officials are working to piece together the events that led to the costly and dangerous incident.
