ZAMBOANGA. The City of Zamboanga sent a 13-man team on a humanitarian mission to earthquake-stricken General Santos City on the night of Thursday, June 11, 2026, demonstrating solidarity with fellow Filipinos affected by calamities.
Send-off Ceremony
Mayor Khymer Olaso led the send-off ceremony in front of City Hall, joined by other local officials. The team, headed by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), includes a rescue unit.
Relief Goods and Cash Assistance
The team brought relief goods such as rice, canned goods, jerry cans, and other essentials. Olaso stated, “We are sending help to General Santos City to ease the burdens of affected residents.” He also announced that P1 million in cash assistance is being processed and will be hand-carried next week by Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, CDRRMO head.
Earthquake Impact
General Santos City was the hardest hit by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter offshore Sarangani.
