A motorcycle rider was apprehended in Mandaue City on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, after CCTV cameras caught him driving on the sidewalk and illegally dumping waste. According to Mandaue City Command Center Section Head Arnold Malig-on, operators tracked the rider from the neighboring City of Consolacion until he was intercepted near Pacific Mall at 11:00 a.m.
Surveillance System Praised
City officials commended the 24-hour surveillance system for the swift arrest of the suspect. Malig-on stated that Command Center personnel observed the rider dumping waste and driving in areas not designated for vehicles.
“The rider was seen dumping waste illegally and driving recklessly by using the sidewalk or gutter area,” Malig-on said.
Real-Time Tracking
After identifying the violations, operators tracked the motorcycle through the city’s interconnected CCTV network and provided real-time information to field enforcers. The rider’s movements were monitored across various locations until the interception operation was executed.
The pursuit ended near the Pacific Mall traffic lights, where enforcers stopped and arrested the rider.
“The Command Center was able to monitor and track the rider continuously through our camera network, allowing enforcers to intercept him,” Malig-on added.
Effectiveness of Surveillance
City officials noted that the incident demonstrates the effectiveness of Mandaue City’s surveillance system in managing traffic and identifying public place violations. The Command Center operates 24/7 to monitor traffic, road incidents, and public safety through the network of CCTV cameras across the city.
