Seda Central Bloc Cebu Celebrates Sixth Anniversary with Major Sustainability Achievement

Seda Central Bloc Cebu commemorated its sixth anniversary with a special media appreciation event titled "Growing Together," held at the hotel's scenic 17th-floor poolside. The gathering served as a platform to highlight significant operational milestones, leadership transitions, and groundbreaking environmental initiatives within Cebu's dynamic hospitality sector.

Leadership Expansion and Operational Resilience

During the anniversary celebration, Ron Manalang was formally introduced in his expanded capacity as cluster general manager, now overseeing all Seda properties in Cebu. In his address to attendees, Manalang expressed gratitude toward media partners and acknowledged the dedicated staff whose efforts sustained hotel operations through particularly challenging periods.

The hotel originally opened just before the global pandemic and has successfully navigated subsequent industry disruptions and regional natural calamities. This resilience underscores the property's commitment to operational excellence and community engagement.

Pioneering Edge Advanced Certification

A centerpiece of the anniversary event was the official presentation of the Edge Advanced Certification, a prestigious green building standard developed by the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group. The certification was unveiled by cluster general manager Ron Manalang and chief engineer Alfie Dalapo.

This recognition makes Seda Central Bloc Cebu the first hotel in Cebu to achieve this elevated level within the Edge framework. The certification validates substantial environmental performance improvements, including:

  • 43 percent energy savings compared to conventional building standards
  • 24 percent water conservation through efficient systems and practices
  • 60 percent reduction in embodied carbon within construction materials

These metrics demonstrate the hotel's comprehensive approach to sustainable operations and resource management.

Urban Greenhouse Initiative and Culinary Integration

Beyond the certification, the hotel showcased its innovative urban greenhouse project, which supplies fresh herbs and produce directly to the property's culinary team. This initiative supports select menu offerings with hyper-local ingredients, reducing transportation emissions and promoting farm-to-table dining experiences.

The anniversary gathering featured numerous key personnel, including Daryl Maye Getubig-Piamonte, assistant director of human resources, and Thrina de la Calzada, director of sales and marketing, who helped present the hotel's sustainability narrative. Operational managers and team leaders were also recognized for their contributions to the property's ongoing success.

The event ultimately reinforced Seda Central Bloc Cebu's dual commitment to hospitality excellence and environmental stewardship, positioning the property as a leader in sustainable tourism development for the region.
