Youth Group Launches Online Petition to Ban Vapes in the Philippines
Youth Group Petitions for Vape Ban in Philippines

The TobaccOFF Now! Movement has launched an online petition to intensify calls for a ban on vapes and e-cigarettes in the Philippines. The umbrella organization of youth groups aims to convince the government to heed the collective demand for stricter regulations.

Youth-Led Initiative Gains Momentum

In a statement, the movement emphasized that youth sentiments online and in communities have inspired the campaign. "We've been inspired by the youth sentiments online and in communities, reminding our government that we deserve better protection from the tobacco and vape industry," said Vonn Vincent Tanchuan, Campaign Lead of TobaccOFF NOW! Movement. He expressed confidence that the movement will continue to grow until the ban is achieved.

Alarming Statistics Drive Urgency

Tanchuan highlighted that vapes and e-cigarettes often serve as a gateway for young people to eventually use cigarettes and other nicotine products. He noted that approximately 1.21 million Filipino youth currently use e-cigarettes and vape products. "The urgency of the movement's demands is backed by alarming statistics," he stressed. "Through this campaign, we, the youth, get to express our frustration about tobacco, vape, and other nicotine products taking over our lives and our health."
