The Visayas grid will be placed under yellow alert again on Wednesday, May 27, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The yellow alert will be effective from around 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, lasting for one hour.
Current Grid Status
As of now, the Visayas grid has an available capacity of 2,682 megawatts (MW), while the peak demand is estimated to reach 2,415 MW. A yellow alert is implemented when there is a thin power reserve.
Forced Outages Impacting Supply
According to the NGCP, Units 1 and 2 of Therma Visayas Inc. and Unit 3 of Panay Energy Development Corp. remain on forced outage. This could result in the loss of necessary capacity to meet the higher demand for electricity supply in the grid.
Additionally, the NGCP stated that the unavailability of three generating units from Therma Visayas Inc. and Panay Energy Development Corp. has contributed to the reduction in the grid's capacity.
