Pampanga's 'Amihan' to Bring Widespread Rains Across Northern Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has announced that the northeast monsoon, commonly referred to as "amihan," will bring rains across Northern Luzon on Friday, March 6, 2026. This weather pattern is expected to impact several regions, with light rains forecasted for Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Regional Weather Conditions

In addition to Batanes and Babuyan Islands, isolated light rains are anticipated in Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and Mainland Cagayan. Meanwhile, PAGASA forecaster Veronica Torres highlighted that the prevailing easterlies will result in fair weather conditions in Metro Manila and the rest of the country. However, she cautioned that thunderstorms are likely, and severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods or landslides, posing risks to affected areas.

Temperature and Heat Index Forecasts

Temperature readings are expected to vary across the Philippines. Zamboanga is forecasted to experience a high of 33°C, while Metro Manila, Legazpi, Laoag, Kalayaan Islands, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo, Tacloban, and Davao could see temperatures reaching up to 32°C. Notably, Torres reported that the highest forecast heat index is 42°C in Coron, Palawan, indicating potentially uncomfortable and hazardous conditions for residents and travelers.

Wind and Sea Conditions

Moderate winds and moderate seas will prevail throughout Northern Luzon due to the influence of the amihan. In other parts of the country, winds are expected to be light to moderate, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate. PAGASA has also confirmed that no low-pressure area is currently being monitored for possible tropical cyclone formation, providing some reassurance regarding storm development.

Residents in Northern Luzon are advised to prepare for rainy conditions and potential disruptions, while those in other regions should stay alert for thunderstorms and high temperatures. PAGASA continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as needed.
