Amihan Triggers Widespread Temperature Drop Across the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported a notable decrease in temperatures across several regions of the country, attributed to the persistent influence of the northeast monsoon, locally known as Amihan. This weather phenomenon has intensified, bringing cooler conditions as observed on January 23, 2026.

Record Low Temperatures and Affected Areas

According to PAGASA, Baguio City experienced the coldest temperature of this Amihan season, plummeting to 10.6°C. This significant drop highlights the monsoon's impact on elevated and northern areas. Other regions also felt the chill, including:

  • Batanes
  • Rizal
  • Bukidnon
  • Bulacan
  • Bataan
  • Ilocos Region
  • Aurora
  • Cagayan

These areas have seen a marked shift towards colder weather, affecting daily activities and prompting residents to bundle up.

Weather Forecast and Additional Factors

PAGASA forecasts that the Amihan will continue to deliver cool winds and light rainfall over a large portion of the Philippines in the coming days. The state weather bureau also noted that a low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility poses minimal risk of affecting local conditions. However, other weather systems are expected to contribute to precipitation:

  1. Shear Line: This may bring rains to certain regions until the end of January.
  2. Easterlies: These winds could also induce rainfall in some areas during the same period.

Residents are advised to stay updated with PAGASA's latest bulletins for any changes in the weather pattern.
