A tropical depression located east of the Philippines may intensify into a typhoon category, according to weather experts. As of now, the weather system is still a tropical depression and remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Location and Strength
The storm was spotted 1,735 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. It is moving west-northwestward at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour.
Monitoring and Possible Impact
Although there is no direct effect on the country yet, experts continue to monitor the system to determine which areas might be affected. If it enters PAR, it will be given the local name Francisco, making it the sixth weather disturbance in the Philippines for 2026.
