Cebu Residents to Enjoy Fair Weather with Minimal Rain, Rising Temperatures Ahead

Residents of Cebu are set to experience generally fair weather over the weekend, with only a low to moderate chance of isolated rain showers, according to the latest forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). This prediction was shared by Pagasa Visayas weather specialist Joseph Merlas in an interview with SunStar Cebu on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Dry Winds Bring Sunny Skies

Merlas explained that the fair weather conditions are primarily due to relatively dry winds sweeping across the region. "Generally fair weather is expected, with a low chance of rain. Any isolated cases of rainfall that may occur are likely to be brief and not very heavy due to the relatively dry winds," he stated in Cebuano. Satellite monitoring confirms that these dry winds are limiting rainfall, ensuring that skies remain mostly sunny and clear for residents to enjoy outdoor activities.

Temperature Forecast and Heat Index Concerns

The weather bureau forecasts temperatures in Cebu to range from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius. However, the heat index is projected to reach around 35 degrees Celsius, which falls within the lower limit of the "extreme caution" level. Merlas warned that despite current conditions being relatively moderate, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight could still lead to dehydration, especially among vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

Looking ahead, Merlas highlighted that temperatures are expected to gradually rise in the coming weeks. "Temperatures are expected to gradually rise in the coming weeks, with the possibility of reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius during the peak months in May," he added in Cebuano. This underscores the importance of taking preventive measures now to adapt to the impending heat.

Safety Recommendations for Residents

In light of the forecast, Pagasa advises Cebu residents to:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Avoid spending long hours under direct sunlight, particularly during peak heat hours.
  • Use protective gear like hats and sunscreen when outdoors.
  • Monitor weather updates regularly for any changes in conditions.

While the weekend offers a reprieve with minimal rain, the gradual temperature increase serves as a reminder to prepare for hotter days ahead. Residents are encouraged to heed these safety tips to ensure their well-being during this period of fair but warming weather.
