Cebu and Visayas Brace for Extended Rainy Weather Due to Low-Pressure Area
Cebu, Visayas Face Rainy Weather from Low-Pressure Area

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued a weather advisory for residents of Cebu and the broader Visayas region, urging them to remain prepared for ongoing rainy conditions. This alert comes as a low-pressure area (LPA) is currently moving outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), yet its effects are still expected to impact the area significantly.

Storm Path and Development Potential

Ever John Tenio, a weather specialist at Pagasa Visayas, provided detailed insights into the situation. He reported that the LPA has a moderate chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours. However, there is some reassuring news: the system is projected to recurve, meaning it will likely stay outside the country's borders and avoid a direct hit on the Philippines.

Despite this, Tenio emphasized that the trough—or the extension of clouds associated with the LPA—is extensive enough to reach Central Visayas. "Even if it remains outside PAR, its impact can still reach us here, especially in Central Visayas," he explained in Cebuano, highlighting the need for vigilance among local communities.

Current Weather Alerts and Safety Measures

In response to the developing weather system, Pagasa has already implemented several rainfall warnings to ensure public safety. As of Monday, March 9, 2026, the following alerts are active:

  • Yellow Rainfall Warning: Issued for Eastern Visayas and most parts of Central Visayas.
  • Yellow Rainfall Advisory: In effect for the Camotes Islands.
  • General Advisories: Rainfall alerts are also active for the Negros Island Region and Panay Island.

These warnings are crucial as they help residents and local authorities prepare for potential hazards, such as flash floods or landslides, which can result from moderate to heavy rainfall.

Forecast and Precautions

The rainy weather is forecast to persist through Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Given the risk of adverse conditions, local officials are closely monitoring the situation to mitigate any potential dangers. Pagasa Visayas advises everyone to stay informed by regularly checking updates on the agency's official website and social media pages.

Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions, such as securing their homes, avoiding flood-prone areas, and keeping emergency kits ready. By staying alert and heeding official advisories, communities can better navigate the challenging weather ahead.
