Cebu Weekend Weather: ITCZ Brings Scattered Rains, Pagasa Warns
Cebu Weekend: ITCZ Brings Scattered Rains

Residents of Cebu should prepare for a wet weekend as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is set to bring significant cloudiness and scattered rains across the region, according to the state weather bureau.

Pagasa's Weather Forecast and Explanation

Ana Dumdum, a weather specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), provided the update on Saturday, November 15, 2025. She confirmed that the ITCZ will result in cloudy skies with light to, at times, moderate-to-heavy rains throughout Cebu. The weather system is a common occurrence during this season, formed by the convergence of winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres near the equator.

Dumdum explained that this converging air is forced upward, which leads to the formation of clouds, thunderstorms, and periods of heavy rainfall, particularly during the evening. The ITCZ plays a major role in shaping the tropical climate patterns of the Philippines, influencing the cycle of rainy and dry seasons.

Safety Advisories and Potential Hazards

Despite the absence of any low-pressure area or typhoon within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of Saturday afternoon, the public is urged to remain cautious. "Those in highly susceptible areas should stay alert. Even if we do not have a storm, the ITCZ can still bring rains," Dumdum cautioned in Cebuano.

Pagasa has issued warnings for potential hazards, including:

  • Localized flash floods
  • Landslides in vulnerable areas

The public is strongly advised to continuously monitor updates from Pagasa for the latest developments. The ITCZ is expected to recede after Monday, November 17, but the possibility of localized thunderstorms will remain.
