PCG Sets Strict Rules for Sinulog 2026 Fluvial Procession Amid Storm Watch
Coast Guard Issues Sinulog 2026 Fluvial Procession Guidelines

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Central Visayas has issued a detailed advisory outlining strict safety measures for all vessels participating in the highly anticipated Sinulog 2026 fluvial procession in Cebu. The guidelines, released on Thursday, January 15, 2026, aim to ensure a secure and orderly seaborne activity by segregating different types of boats and establishing clear routes.

Vessel Categories and Designated Areas

To prevent congestion and potential accidents, the PCG has mandated a separation of vessels based on size. All Yellow Category motorbancas are required to remain stationary in the designated area near Nustar for the entire duration of the procession. Meanwhile, larger Blue Category vessels and other big ships must pre-position themselves in the waters close to the First Cebu-Mactan Bridge.

Authorized participants will be allowed to follow the official fluvial route from the bridge towards Pier 2. However, this movement must be conducted under the strict supervision and management of Coast Guard personnel stationed along the course. A galley ship will lead the procession, turning in front of the participating vessels to guide the way and mitigate any risks.

Weather Monitoring and Contingency Plans

The safety announcement comes as authorities keep a close watch on Tropical Storm Ada. The PCG is continuously assessing weather conditions to make final decisions regarding the seaborne event. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), there is currently a low chance that Central Visayas will be placed under Signal Number 1.

Furthermore, PAGASA does not anticipate large waves in the Mactan Channel. Despite this relatively favorable forecast, officials are vigilantly monitoring any shifts in the storm's track. The PCG has granted initial clearance for the procession to proceed as planned but issued a firm warning: the event could be suspended immediately if weather signals are raised to Signal Number 1.

Call for Cooperation and Vigilance

The Coast Guard emphasized that the success of a safe and vibrant Sinulog 2026 fluvial procession hinges on the full cooperation of all participants. Boat owners and operators are strongly reminded to comply with all PCG directives and mandated safety protocols without exception.

The public is also encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories from PAGASA and to exercise caution during all Sinulog-related activities. The PCG's primary goal is to facilitate a peaceful, orderly, and accident-free celebration that honors the Santo Niño tradition while prioritizing the safety of everyone involved.
